Gallery Thea - Ceramic Illustrator

Thea Cutting is a Suffolk born illustrator who is based at her gallery in Southwold, where she produces one off pieces of hand painted pottery to buy off the shelf or order by commission.

Thea trained at Suffolk College, York and finally at De Montfort University, Leicester studying ceramics and glass. Once she graduated her first job was at a ceramic studio in London, where people kept asking to buy her 'examples'. This motivated her to go free lance in 2000.

"Working in the way I do gives me freedom to come up with new ideas, drawing on anything that captivates me. There are no barriers to stop me doing what I want to do. I am inspired by visual ideas from my daily life. Bringing up two boys in the countryside, gives me the opportunity to be enthused by what I see around me. The simplest of things can hold a quiet fascination, for my children and for me.”
