Evelyn has always been a maker, trying out a variety of arts and crafts. After studying Art and History in Germany she taught in different schools and colleges, always finding this work inspiring for her own artistic process.

She thinks it is a bonus that her pieces can be used as decorative items, like wall hangings, as well as practical accessories, as we all know, felt keeps you warm. Constantly trying out new designs and material combinations means she owns quite a number of felted accessories matching nearly every jacket or coat or cardigan.

The fibres, mainly soft Merino tops or local Alpaca wool, shrink and fuse together during the wet felting method. Using a natural product as a starting point for felt making means all designs will be by definition slightly different. The length, width and thickness of the finished product will vary for that reason as well; you'll get a truly unique product.

"I try to combine different types of wool, cotton, silk, all sorts of wool threads and yarn. The endless opportunities of combining different material are very inspiring.  Colour and textures guide me in creating a design, nothing is written down, weighed or measured exactly. Despite being able to stick to a chosen colour combination, the arrangement of the individual fibres will be different. This particular part of the creative process interests me most.
I discovered felt making in preparation for a school project and since then I can't stop felting. The actual felting and fulling process can be physically demanding, but the finished product is rewarding and immediately creates new ideas in my head.”
